Lynch joined the Essex Scottish Battalion in Windsor in 1940 and lost his right shoulder and arm after the D-Day invasion at Normandy. After World War II, Lynch began his career with the Wings at Olympia Stadium in 1949 as the team’s radio play-by-play announcer and also once spent time as the Red Wings’ director of publicity. He has served as the Wings’ public address announcer since 1985, the same year he received the Foster Hewett Memorial Trophy from the Hockey Hall of Fame for his outstanding contributions as a hockey broadcaster.
