Zetterberg leaves with upper body injury
First-period hit by Lightning's Ohlund knocks Wings' top scorer from game
Zetterberg leads the injury-plagued Red Wings this season with 10 goals and 22 assists. He is one of five Red Wings to have played in all 33 games. The others are forwards Todd Bertuzzi and Tomas Holmstrom, and Nicklas Lidstrom and Brad Stuart.
A Red Wings’ spokesman said that Zetterberg sustained an upper body injury and that he would not return to Thursday’s game. An update on Zetterberg’s condition is expected after the game.
Zetterberg was named the NHL’s First Star of the Week, for the period ending Nov. 15 when he collected 11 points in a six-game stretch that produced five wins for the Red Wings.
Zetterberg’s absence means the Wings are without nine regulars due to injury, joining Dan Cleary (separated shoulder), Johan Franzen (torn ACL), Niklas Kronwall (sprained knee), Valtteri Filppula (broken wrist), Jason Williams (fractured fibula), Jonathan Ericsson (bone bruise), Darren Helm (sprained wrist) and Andreas Lilja (headaches).
