DETROIT -- The Red Wings have agreed to terms with veteran left wing Tomas Holmstrom on a two-year contract, which is expected to be signed by the player in the next few days.

Holmstrom is the second veteran to re-sign with the Red Wings this week. Defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom ended speculation that he might retire after 18 NHL seasons when he signed a one-year deal with the club on Tuesday.

Holmstrom, who was due to become a restricted free agent on July 1, but now he'll return for a 14th season with the organization that he broke into in 1996-97. He is a member of four Stanley Cup championship teams.

Holmstrom, 37, is widely regarded as the premier net-front player in the NHL. Few others have consistently made the front of the opposing net their office as successfully as Holmstrom, who has the battle scars to show for it.

In 2009-10, he scored 25 goals, inclulding a team-high 13 on the power play) and 45 points in 68 regular-season games, reaching at least 20 goals for the fifth time in the past seven seasons.

Holmstrom has 214 goals and 469 points in 879 career games.
