Jarnkrok was just the fourth Swede taken among the first 51 draft selections.
Aubry, a 6-foot-4, 194-pounder from Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, is the 18-year-old son of former Red Wings center Pierre Aubry, who played parts of two seasons during the mid-80s in Detroit.
In the last two years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Aubry collected 25 goals with 30 assists in 131 games with the Montreal Juniors..
More than a heady, smart player on the ice, Aubry has received recognition for his work in the class room, as well. He was Scholastic Player of the Month at College St-Bernard Secondary School in October 2008. In a press release at the time, Aubry’s teachers were unanimous, saying “he has a great work ethic, he is diligent and takes the necessary means to obtain the answers to his questions.”
The Red Wings also selected a center with their first-round pick on Friday night at Staples Center in Los Angeles. With the 21st overall pick, the Wings chose Notre Dame freshman Riley Sheahan, a native of St. Catharine’s, Ontario.
