DETROIT – With the Red Wings on a trip through western Canada in early November, boxing legend Evander Holyfield will occupy Joe Louis Arena.

The five-time heavyweight champion was at JLA on Thursday to announce that he will fight Sherman Williams (34-11-2) for the World Boxing Federation title.

It was also announced that Holyfield, who will be 48-years-old by the time of the fight, will donate enough money to provide five meals to Forgotten Harvest for every ticket sold to the Nov. 5 bout.

Holyfield (43-10-2, 28 KOs) last fought in April, knocking out 41-year-old Francois Botha in the eighth round. Williams has won nine of his last 10 fights, but lost his most recent bout last October.

Holyfield is trying to become the oldest fighter to win a major heavyweight championship, which would pass then then-45-year-old George Foreman, who defeated Detroiter Michael Moorer in 1994.

Known as the Caribbean Tank, the 35-year-old Williams is a defensive specialist, having gone the distance in all but one of his 47 previous pro fights.

But that doesn’t worry Holyfield, who owns the WBF belt.

“I've taken care of myself,” said Holyfield, who has a 5-6 record since 2002. “If you don't believe me, show up to the ring on the 5th. … See another guy go down.”
