Draper injured in Wings' scrimmage

Draper injured in Wings\' scrimmage
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – Veteran forward Kris Draper became the first casualty of the Red Wings’ four-day training camp when he suffered a groin injury early in the first period of Saturday’s intra-squad scrimmage at Centre I.C.E. Arena.

“No matter how hard you trained or how hard you worked in the summer,” coach Mike Babcock said, “these first couple of days in camp are always real tough on your groins and your hip-flexors and we want to be smart with that.”

Draper is battling for a spot on the team’s fourth line, along with Justin Abdelkader, Patrick Eaves, Darren Helm, Drew Miller and Mattias Ritola.

The extent of Draper’s injury was not immediately known. He did not speak to the media.
