DETROIT -- The Red Wings today announced that defenseman Doug Janik has been recalled from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. Janik, 30, will be inserted into Detroit’s lineup tonight when the Red Wings play host to the Colorado Avalanche.
The Agawam, Mass., native is currently in his second season with the organization. Janik appeared in 13 games for Detroit last season, registering two assists, 18 penalty minutes and a minus-3 rating. He has appeared in 174 career NHL games.
To clear a roster spot for Janik, the Red Wings placed veteran center Kris Draper on Injured Reserve. Draper continues to nurse a groin injury suffered during training camp.
