Wings welcome new partnerships
DETROIT (press release) -- The Red Wings announced today they have signed an agreement with Quicken Loans Inc. and Fathead LLC. The multi-platform deal provides Quicken Loans and Fathead with internal and external signage, print, radio, television and Web site advertising, fan-based opportunities, and a particularly unique element to honor military veterans.
This hockey season, Quicken Loans, the nation’s fifth largest retail lender, and Fathead, maker of life-size vinyl wall graphics, will be the title sponsors of the Budd Lynch Veterans Suite. The suite is used to host veterans and active military personnel during every Red Wings home game and has been named in honor of Budd Lynch.  A veteran of the Canadian Army who served during World War II and was wounded shortly after the Battle of Normandy, Lynch has been with the Red Wings for 61 years, first as a radio broadcaster, public relations director and now as public address announcer.
Quicken Loans and Fathead are owned by local Detroit businessman Dan Gilbert, who recently relocated company headquarters and 1,700 team members to the Compuware Building in downtown Detroit.
“When Quicken Loans moved to Woodward Avenue, we were ecstatic to have new neighbors that are dedicated to the state of Michigan and downtown Detroit,” said Steve Violetta, the Red Wings senior vice president of business affairs. “As we welcomed them to town, we found that we had several opportunities to help them achieve some of their goals. One of the most exciting parts of this relationship is that we will both be honoring our men and women of the armed forces with the Budd Lynch Veterans Suite.”
Other elements of the deal include virtual signage for Quicken Loans and Fathead that appear on the end glass in Red Wings’ home game broadcasts on FOX Sports Detroit, LED dasher board signage, radio commercials, print and Web advertising, external pole banner advertising from Compuware Center (Quicken Loans headquarters) to Joe Louis Arena in downtown Detroit, signage during College Hockey at the Joe contests, inclusion on the Red Wings general and targeted fan emails, and Fathead product placement in Detroit Red Wings retail outlets. Quicken Loans and Fathead will also receive tickets to Red Wings' home games and have committed to using them in community relations efforts throughout the season.
“We are excited to partner with the Detroit Red Wings and proud to sponsor the Budd Lynch Veterans Suite at the Joe,” said Jay Farner, president of Quicken Loans. “It is important to us that we recognize and honor the men and women of the military, who have risked their lives to ensure our safety and way of life.”
