Helm has already done this, either causing a costly turnover or intercepting a pass for a breakaway. For his great work Helm was honored as the Carhartt’s Hardest Working Player of the Month for March by the Red Wings’ coaching staff.
Helm’s game really started to come around when the mass of injuries hit the Wings in the middle of the year. Regulars like Pavel Datsyuk, Danny Cleary and Tomas Holmstrom were out for extended periods of time and Helm stepped up, not only continuing his steady defensive game, but also chipping in offensively. The results have shown. Helm has played in all 80 games this season and has a career-high 32 points, crushing his previous high of 24 set last season.
He is the 12th forward recipient of the award and the 22nd recipient overall.
