Schedule for Wings-Coyotes series is set

DETROIT -- The Red Wings will begin their quest for a 12th Stanley Cup championship when they face the Phoenix Coyotes in a best-of-seven Western Conference quarterfinals series, which starts Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Joe Louis Arena. Game 2, also at JLA, is set for Saturday at 1 p.m.

Games 3 and 4 will be held at Arena in Glendale, Arizona on Monday, April 18 at 10:30 p.m. and Wednesday, April 20 at 10:30 p.m. If necessary, the Red Wings will host Game 5 on Friday, April 22 at 7  p.m.; the Coyotes will host Game 6 on Easter Sunday, April 24 at a time to be determined; and Detroit  will host Game 7 on Wednesday, April 27 at a time to be determined. All game times listed are Eastern Daylight Time.

The Red Wings are the third seed in the Western Conference, marking the 20th consecutive time that the franchise has qualified for the Stanley Cup playoffs. Detroit finished the regular-season first in the Central Division with 47-25-10 record and third in the conference with 104 points, marking the 11th straight season that the team has surpassed 100-points.

Detroit posted a 2-1-1 record against sixth-seeded Phoenix during the regular-season, which includes a 2-0-0 mark at The Joe. The Red Wings finished the season with a 5-point advantage over the Coyotes in the Western Conference standings, but were outscored by Phoenix, 12-11, during the season series. This marks the fourth time that these franchises have faced off in the Stanley Cup playoff, which includes last spring's seven-game series won by the Red Wings, 4-3.
