DETROIT – The Red Wings secured their second 2009 draft pick in the last week when they signed forward Andrej Nestrasil to a three-year entry-level contract.

The Wings signed defenseman Adam Almqvist to a three-year entry-level deal last Friday.

Per NHL rules, teams have until June 1 to sign their prospects that they drafted in 2009. The Wings now have four players from that draft under contract, including Landon Ferraro (second round, No. 32 overall), Tomas Tatar (second round, No. 60) and Almqvist (seventh round, No. 210).

The 20-year-old Nestrasil had 19 goals and 51 assists in 58 games for the Prince Edward Island Rocket of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last season. At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, the former third-round selection has shown the skills to contribute offensively as a playmaker more so than as a scorer.

Nestrasil will join the Red Wings’ AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids next season. He finished a phenomenal junior career in the QMJHL with 57 goals and 121 assist in 174 games for PEI and Victoriaville. He’s also had a stellar international career, compiling 14 goals and 21 assists in 46 games for the Czech Republic.

The Red Wings have until Wednesday to sign ’09 draftees or they will be eligible to re-enter this year’s draft.
