McCrimmon funeral is Saturday
DETROIT – The funeral for former Red Wings assistant coach Brad McCrimmon will be held Saturday at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Farmington, Michigan. The Mass is scheduled for 12 p.m. EDT.

Last week, McCrimmon, the head coach of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, was among 44 people killed when the jetliner carrying their KHL hockey team crash shortly after takeoff in Russia.

For the last three seasons, McCrimmon, 52, was an assistant coach to Wings’ head coach Mike Babcock. A former first-round draft pick of the Boston Bruins, McCrimmon played 18 NHL seasons as a defenseman for six different clubs, including the Wings (1990-93). He also skated for Boston, Philadelphia, Calgary, Hartford and Phoenix.

McCrimmon was one of three former Wings who were killed when the plane crashed into the Volga River, about 150 miles northeast of Moscow. Defenseman Ruslan Salei and former goalie draft pick Stefan Liv were also killed.

McCrimmon played 203 games in a Red Wings’ uniform, scoring eight goals with 49 assists. He finished his NHL playing career following the 1996-97 season with 81 goals and 322 assists in 1,222 games.

McCrimmon is survived by his wife of 21 years, Maureen; and his children, daughter, Carlin; and son, Liam.
