DETROIT –  It’s hockey season again, and the Michigan Humane Society (MHS) and the Detroit Red Wings have teamed up to help transform the lives of animals in need from Homeless to Loved! The five individuals who raise the most funds online between today and Sunday night for MHS’ Mega March for Animals will win a meet and greet opportunity with Red Wings forward Patrick Eaves and a private viewing of a Red Wings practice at Joe Louis Arena.

“My Newfoundland Rueben is a valuable member of our family and like a big brother to my daughter," Eaves said. "I am involved with the Mega March for Animals walk to help raise money for the Michigan Humane Society so that other pets can get the proper care they deserve and the opportunity to join a loving family."

It’s simple to get started. Just visit www.michiganhumane.org/MEGA to sign up and start raising money online for the 2011 Mega March for Animals. The five online participants who raise the most money between Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 12:01 a.m. and Sunday, Sept. 25 at 11:59 p.m., will win the chance to meet Patrick Eaves at Joe Louis Arena and attend a Red Wings practice. Each of the five winners will also be able to bring one guest.

“This is an amazing opportunity for any pet lover and Red Wings fan,” said Meghan Greenlees, MHS Event Manager for the 2011 Mega March for Animals. “Every dollar donated to the Mega March for Animals will help MHS transform thousands of lives from homeless to loved! We’re very thankful that the Red Wings have been such great partners to MHS and the animals in our care.”

Thousands of pet lovers will attend the Mega March for Animals, the largest walk for animals in Michigan, on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 9 a.m. at Hart Plaza. In addition to the Detroit Red Wings, flagship sponsors include Biggby Coffee, Body by Jenn, Comerica Bank, Canine College, Jim Riehl’s Friendly Automotive Group, PetSmart and Taco Bell. Media sponsors for the event are Channel 7 WXYZ, 96.3 WDVD and 93.1 DOUG-FM.

The Michigan Humane Society is a private, nonprofit organization which cares for more than 100,000 animals each year, while working to end companion animal homelessness, provide the highest quality service and compassion to the animals entrusted to our care, and to be a leader in promoting humane values.
