Red Wings assign five players to AHL
Opening night roster now set; Detroit hosts Ottawa on Friday

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today announced that five players have cleared NHL waivers and have been assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL): goaltender Joey MacDonald, forward Chris Conner, and defensemen Garnet Exelby, Logan Pyett, and Doug Janik. An updated Red Wings roster can be found below:

Detroit’s 2011-12 season officially begins on Friday, October 7 when the Ottawa Senators pay a visit to Joe Louis Arena for a 7:00 p.m. showdown with the reigning Central Division champs (doors will open at 5:30 p.m.).
