Brunnstrom put on waivers
The move gives general manager Ken Holland the option to recall a player from Grand Rapids, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, if he chooses.
Brunnstrom collected 40 points in 99 NHL games with the Dallas Stars, before signing a one-year, two-way contract with the Wings on Oct. 3. Before signing with the Stars a few years ago, Brunnstrom was a hot commodity with several teams seeking out his services. However, he had a drop off in confidence with the Stars, and this summer he sought a new team with hopes of resurrecting his career.
He received a tryout with the Wings at training camp, and was impressive enough to earn a contract and a roster spot. But cracking the team’s lineup has been more difficult.
Brunnstrom, 26, did get in one game with the Wings, skating in eight-minutes of a 7-1 loss at Washington last Saturday. He has until noon Monday to clear waivers. If the 6-foot-02 forward clears, he’ll be assigned to Grand Rapids.
In the meantime, the Wings have a few personnel options with the Griffins, most notably forwards Chris Conner (four goals, six assists) and Gustav Nyquist (three goals, four assists), who are currently 1-2 in team scoring.
