Conner recalled; Andersson returned
DETROIT – The Red Wings made two roster moves involving a pair of forwards Wednesday afternoon, recalling Chris Conner from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League, and reassigning forward Joakim Andersson to their minor league affiliate.

For Conner, this is his second call-up with the Wings. In his first stint, which lasted six games before he suffered a broken bone in his left hand, the Livonia, Michigan, native had a goal and two assists while adding energy and speed to the third forward line with Darren Helm and Danny Cleary.

Conner was injured in Pittsburgh on Dec. 13. He wore a hard cast for two weeks and was cleared by the team’s medial staff on Monday at which point he was sent to Grand Rapids following the Wings’ practice at City Arena. He practiced Tuesday and Wednesday with the Griffins.

The 22-year-old Andersson was called up to make his NHL debut after Christmas when power forward Tomas Holmstrom was sidelined with a groin injury. In his debut, the 6-foot-2 forward skated on the fourth line with fellow rookie Cory Emmerton and center Justin Abdelkader.

In four games with the Wings, Andersson delivered three hits, blocked a shot, and won his only face-off – against Chicago’s Jamal Mayers – while averaging more than six-minutes of ice-time per game. With the Griffins this season, Andersson has eight goals and nine assists in 29 AHL games.

After center Darren Helm went down with a groin injury last week in practice, Andersson stayed on with the Wings and formed one-third of an all-rookie line with Emmerton and Gustav Nyquist, who joined the club in Chicago.
