DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today announced that forward Tomas Tatar has been reassigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. Tatar was recalled from Grand Rapids on Thursday but did not dress for last night’s 2-1 home win over Nashville.
Tatar, 21, has recorded 36 points (13G-23A) in 49 games played for Grand Rapids this season and 125 points (53G-72A) in 177 career AHL appearances. The Ilava, Slovakia native was the Red Wings’ second selection (second round, 60th overall) at the 2009 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Tatar appeared in nine games for Detroit during the 2010-11 campaign, recording 1G-0A-1P in addition to an even +/- rating. The 5’11”, 176-lb. winger has previously represented Slovakia at both the IIHF World Championships (2010) and IIHF World Junior Championships (2009, 2010).
Currently leading the NHL with a record of 40-17-2, the Red Wings will take their league-record 22-game home ice winning streak into tomorrow afternoon’s showdown with the San Jose Sharks (12:30 p.m. – NBC & 97.1 The Ticket). Sunday’s match is expected to be the 57th consecutive sellout for an NHL game at Joe Louis Arena (20,066 fans).
