By The Numbers will highlight the Red Wings on-ice accomplishments in the 2011-12 season. Each week during the off-season, By The Numbers will profile a different player on the team, focusing on their statistical highs. This week we focus on defenseman Brad Stuart.

On Nov. 20, Stuart tied a career-high by netting two goals against the Ducks in Anaheim. His first tally of the night proved to be the game-winner while his second was ultimately the only short-handed marker of the season recorded by a Red Wings' player.

The number of multi-point games the veteran tallied on the season, raising his career total to 46. Detroit won all three of the games in which Stuart registered two points.

Stuart posted the best plus/minus rating of his career in 2011-12, finishing the season at a highly-respectable plus-16. His plus-5 rating in intradivisional contests, meanwhile, was the best mark amongst all Detroit defensemen.

The 32-year-old tallied 21 points (6G-15A) this past season, his best total since joining the Wings in 2008. He was one of only two Detroit defensemen to skate in at least 80 games, finishing the campaign with 81 appearances (Kronwall, 82).

Stuart led all Red Wings players and finished tied for 16th amongst all NHL defensemen by dishing out 177 body checks on the season.

Detroit’s 5-2 home win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on October 21 was the 800th game of Stuart’s career. The Rocky Mountain House, AB native is one of only 26 active defensemen to be a member of the NHL’s Octuple Century Club.
