Gill named Canada coach for tournament
Hockey Canada on Tuesday announced Kingston Frontenacs coach Todd Gill, who played for the Red Wings between 1998-2001, will coach Canada's entry at the 2012 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament.
The summer under-18 tournament will be held Aug. 13-18 in Piestany, Slovakia and Breclav, Czech Republic.
Canada has won the tournament four straight years.
In Gill's first season as coach in Kingston, the Frontenacs finished with just 46 points, second-fewest in the Ontario Hockey League. However, he was part of the coaching staff that helped Canada win a bronze medal in April at the World Under-18 Championship.
Serving as assistant coaches will be Victoriaville coach Yanick Jean and Guelph coach Scott Walker.
Walker was part of the coaching staff that helped Canada win a bronze medal at the 2012 World Junior Championship.
