Louis-Marc Aubry, a third-round pick in 2010, will be in Traverse City when the franchise's prospects gather for development camp beginning Saturday.
DETROIT – The Red Wings' development camp kicks off this weekend with 41-players converging on Centre ICE Arena in Traverse City.

Prospects from each of the last six draft classes – along with five free agent players and eight invitees – will be represented at next month’s development camp, which is being held in Traverse City for the second straight year. The camp used to be held at Joe Louis Arena. This year's camp will conclude on July 13.

For a list of players who will be at the camp see the roster below.

It’s expected that defenseman Brendan Smith will spend his first full season with the Red Wings when the NHL season begins in the fall, but that hasn’t dissuaded the 23-year-old Mimico, Ontario, native from committing to his sixth summer camp. Smith, the Wings’ first-round draft pick in 2007, was recalled twice to Detroit last season, playing in 14 games and producing a goal and six assists.

However, Smith won’t be the oldest player at the camp. That distinction will belong – by five months – to forward Travis Novak, a free agent invitee who last spring graduated from St. Cloud State, where he was teammates with defenseman Nick Jensen, the Wings’ fifth-round pick in 2009.

There will be 28 draft prospects in attendance, including all six draftees that the Red Wings acquired in last weekend’s NHL draft in Pittsburgh. Nine players who played for the Wings’ minor-league affiliate in Grand Rapids will participate in Traverse City, including a pair of former first-round picks – goalie Thomas McCollum (2008) and forward Riley Sheahan (2010).

The Wings also expect to get their first North American look at Finnish forward Teemu Pulkkinen, who signed a three-year entry level contract with the Wings last month. Pulkkinen was Detroit’s fourth-round pick in 2010. Last season, he was second in team scoring for Jokerit in Helsinki, netting 16 goals and 21 assists in 56 games. He will play the 2012-13 season in Finland.

Of the invitees, two have ties to the Wings’ organization, including Dean Chelios, the son of longtime defenseman and current advisor to hockey operations, Chris Chelios. The son of coach Mike Babcock, Detroit Catholic Central senior Michael Babcock, will be a first-time participant in the camp.
