NHL cancels games through October 24
Cancellation affects six Red Wings' games, including two at JLA
NEW YORK -- The National Hockey League announced today the cancellation of the 2012-13 regular-season schedule through October 24. A total of 82 regular-season games, including six for the Red Wings, were scheduled for Oct. 11 through Oct. 24.
The cancellation was necessary because of the absence of a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL Players' Association and the NHL.
The Wings were scheduled to host Nashville in the season-opener on Oct. 12, as well as the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 22. The league's cancellation means Detroit also lost four road games at Buffalo (Oct. 16), St. Louis (Oct. 18), Chicago (Oct. 20), and Columbus (Oct. 23).
