Griffins trim trio from roster
AHL club re-assigns a goalie, defenseman and forward
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Griffins on Friday released goaltender Charlie Effinger, defenseman Kyle Bushee and forward Eric Kattelus from training camp. They will report to their ECHL clubs in Fort Wayne, Elmira and Kalamazoo, respectively.
The Griffins’ roster currently stands at 28 players: 17 forwards, eight defensemen and three goalies (see list below). The team will play the first of two preseason contests against the Lake Erie Monsters, Saturday at 6 p.m. EDT at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio, before wrapping up its preseason slate at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor on Sunday at 7 p.m.
Goaltenders: Tom McCollum, Petr Mrazek and Jordan Pearce. Defensemen: Adam Almquist, Chad Billins, Brennan Evans, Gleason Fournier, Brian Lashoff, Max Nicastro, Nathan Paetsch and Brendan Smith. Forwards: Joakim Andersson, Louis-Marc Aubry, Mitch Callahan, Max Campbell, Willie Coetzee, Landon Ferraro, Luke Glendening, Triston Grant, Jeff Hoggan, Tomas Jurco, Joey Martin, Andrej Nestrasil, Gustav Nyquist, Francis Pare, Trevor Parkes, Brent Raedeke and Riley Sheahan.
Forward Tomas Tatar is currently playing with SHK 37 Piestany in the Slovakian Extraliga, but he will rejoin the Griffins before the team’s first game.
Grand Rapids will open the 2012-13 regular season with back-to-back home games against the Milwaukee Admirals on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. and the Hamilton Bulldogs on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at griffinshockey.com.
