By the Numbers: Damien Brunner

By The Numbers will highlight the Red Wings on-ice accomplishments in the 2013 season. Each week during the off-season, By The Numbers will profile a different player on the team, focusing on their statistical highs. This week we focus on forward Damien Brunner.

The number of goals he scored in his first NHL season. Was among five Red Wings' players to score 10 or more goals. The others were Pavel Datsyuk (15), Johan Franzen (14), Henrik Zetterberg (12) and Justin Abdelkader (10).

Was second on the team in total shots on goal during the regular season, averaging 2.8 SOG per game. He had just one game (Mar. 16 vs. VAN) where he didn't register a single shot.

The number of points (two goals, two assists) that he had in an 8-3 win over Vancouver on Feb. 24. The four-point night stands as his NHL single game best.

The total game-deciding shootout goals that he scored, clinching wins against CBJ (Jan. 21) and SJS (Feb. 28). Brunner and Datsyuk were each 2-for-7 on SO attempts.

Number of total penalties he had in his first NHL season. Of the 13 players who played in 40 or more games, Brunner went to the penalty box the fourth fewest times, trailing only Valtteri Filppula (3), Cory Emmerton (2) and Drew Miller (1).

Not known as much of a shot-blocker, he collected just two all season: against Chicago's Johnny Oduya on Mar. 3, and against Dallas defenseman Jordie Benn in the season-finale.
