Wings launch ‘Hockeytown Thanks’ tour
Players made surprise visits to local businesses for second year
DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings will open a new chapter in their history when they debut in the Eastern Conference and begin the 2013-14 season on Wednesday, Oct. 2, against the Buffalo Sabres. The team’s players first took some time to delight local partner businesses and fans with a series of surprise appearances across Southeastern Michigan on Monday, Sept. 30, as part of the second annual ‘Hockeytown Thanks’ tour. The grassroots venture saw all of the players currently on the team’s roster take some time to connect with a blend of companies across metro Detroit.
“The relationships we develop with our corporate partners go way beyond arena signs and digital promotions," said Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications Craig Turnbull. “In a small way, Hockeytown Thanks connects our players directly with these organizations, delivering memorable and surprising moments in areas where Red Wings families live and work.”
“Thanks to the Red Wings, a dreary Monday morning was brightened up when four players surprised our Fifth Third Bank team with a visit to our Southfield headquarters,” commented Jack Riley, Senior Vice President of Fifth Third Bank.
Appearances made by Red Wings players during this year’s Hockeytown Thanks tour included:
- Danny DeKeyser, Jonathan Ericsson, Johan Franzen and Niklas Kronwall met with top-level executives in a private conference and greeted employees in the atrium of DTE Energy in downtown Detroit. (photos)
- Daniel Alfredsson, Brian Lashoff and Tomas Tatar worked with the housekeeping staff at the MotorCity Casino Hotel to test their skills straightening up rooms and later visited employees in the break room.
