DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today recalled left wing Mitch Callahan from the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins and assigned center Landon Ferraro to the Griffins.

Originally drafted in the sixth round (180th overall) by Detroit in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Callahan helped the Griffins to a Calder Cup championship in 2012-13, notching 20 points (11-9-20) in 71 regular-season games and 11 points (6-5-11) in 24 postseason contests. Prior to turning professional, the 6-foot, 195-lb., forward appeared in 204 WHL games with the Kelowna Rockets from 2008-11, tallying 128 points (57-71-128) and 440 penalty minutes. He was also a member of the 2009 Kelowna squad that captured the WHL’s Ed Chynoweth Cup.

Ferraro, 22, made his NHL debut with Detroit on March 18 versus Toronto and has appeared in four games with the club this season, registering two penalty minutes and two shots on goal while averaging 8:58 of ice time. A native of Trail, B.C., Ferraro has also appeared in 60 games with the Griffins, registering 28 points (13-15-28). The third-year pro led Grand Rapids in goals last season, finishing third on the team with 47 points (24-23-47). In 190 career AHL games, he has notched 95 points (46-49-95) and 135 penalty minutes. Originally drafted by Detroit in the second round (32nd overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-foot, 179-lb., center recorded 152 points (76-76-152) and 270 penalty minutes in 220 WHL games with the Red Deer Rebels and Everett Silvertips prior to turning professional in 2011-12.

After recording points in four straight games (3-0-1) last week to move back into a playoff position, the Red Wings (33-24-14) will play four games in six days against Eastern Conference rivals this week. Detroit will visit Columbus to take on the Blue Jackets tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. (NBCSN/FOX Sports Detroit/97.1 The Ticket) before welcoming the Montreal Canadiens to Joe Louis Arena on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. (FOX Sports Detroit/97.1 The Ticket).
