Glendening signs three-year extension

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today signed center Luke Glendening to a three-year contract extension. In accordance with club policy, additional details will not be disclosed.

Glendening, 24, has made 51 appearances with the Red Wings as a second-year pro, recording six points (0-6-6), 16 penalty minutes, 78 hits and 32 blocked shots, while averaging 13:49 of ice time. He has also skated in 18 games with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins this season, registering 12 points (5-7-12), a plus-8 rating and 18 penalty minutes. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native started his professional career in 2012-13 with the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye, notching 21 points (14-7-21) in 27 games before moving up to the AHL full-time. In 51 games with his hometown Griffins, the 5-foot-11, 195-lb., forward tallied 26 points (8-18-26) and 50 penalty minutes. He also helped the team win its first-ever Calder Cup, tying for the AHL rookie lead in the postseason with 16 points (6-10-16) and 30 penalty minutes in 24 games.

A product of the University of Michigan, Glendening recorded 70 points (31-39-70) in 165 collegiate contests with the Wolverines from 2008-12. After initially making the team as a walk-on, he served as the team’s captain as a junior and senior and won the CCHA’s Best Defensive Forward award in 2011-12.
