Wings secure 23rd straight playoff spot
Tickets to Detroit’s first two post-season home games currently on sale
DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings clinched a spot in the 2014 Stanley Cup® Playoffs for the 23rd straight season by taking a point in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night. The Red Wings currently sit in the second Wild Card position in the Eastern Conference standings with 91 points (38-27-15) and two games remaining in the regular season.
Detroit’s streak of 23-straight playoff appearances (1990-91 – present) is the longest active streak in all of North American major professional sports and is the fifth longest of its kind in NHL history. Among NHL teams, the next closest active playoff streak is 10 seasons, currently held by the San Jose Sharks.
Despite a franchise-record 406 man-games lost due to injury this season, the Red Wings push for a 23rd straight playoff appearance has featured the team in the midst of a 9-4-2 run in its last 15 games. Wednesday’s shootout defeat comes only one night after head coach Mike Babcock collected his 414th victory in Detroit, making him the all-time winningest coach in franchise history.
Red Wings playoff tickets are on sale for the first two opening-round home contests against the winner of either the Atlantic Division (Boston Bruins) or the Metropolitan Division (Pittsburgh Penguins). Tickets can be purchased at the Joe Louis Arena Box Office (313-471-7575), all Ticketmaster outlets (800-745-3000) and online at DetroitRedWings.com.
Fans can save on post-season box office prices this spring by purchasing a Playoffs Ticket Plan that guarantees the same seat for every possible Stanley Cup® Playoff game held at Joe Louis Arena. To qualify for this offer, fans need to place a low down payment on 2014-15 season tickets.
In addition to affording purchasers significant savings, the Playoffs Ticket Plan also offers the convenient ‘Pay-as-the-Wings-Play’ payment option, which eliminates the need to pay for the entire post-season up front. Fans electing to take advantage of this exciting offer will only be charged as each game is played throughout the duration of Detroit’s playoff run.
