By The Numbers: Darren Helm
Take a look at some of the statistical numbers that Red Wings center Darren Helm amassed in Detroit during the 2013-14 NHL season.

By The Numbers will highlight the Red Wings on-ice accomplishments in the 2013-14 season. Each week during the off-season, By The Numbers will profile a different player on the team, focusing on their statistical highs. This week we focus on center Darren Helm.

Led the club in shorthanded goals last season, giving him seven career shorties, which is second most among active Red Wings, trailing just Henrik Zetterberg (9). Rookie defenseman Danny DeKeyser scored Detroit’s other SHG in 2013-14.

Tied his personal high for goals scored in a regular season that was established in 2010-11 when he appeared in all 82 games. Finished seventh on the team in goals and tied for third with Tomas Tatar and Justin Abdelkader with three GWG each.

One of three Red Wings to record a hat trick during the 2013-14 season. He did so in Detroit’s 4-2 victory at Toronto on March 29. Johan Franzen and Gustav Nyquist also had three-goal performances.

Finished eighth on the team in total hits, the fewest he’s had since he had 37 hits in 16 games in 2008-09. He had a season-high five hits in Detroit’s 6-5 overtime loss at Washington on Feb. 2.

The number of shootout goals he had last season. Not only was it his first career SO goal, it was his first career game-deciding goal, which came Jan. 22 against Chicago goalie Corey Crawford at Joe Louis Arena.

Number of consecutive faceoff wins spanning three games from April 5-9. He was perfect in the circle going 6-for-6 against Montreal (Tomas Plekanec, David DeSharnais, Lars Eller), and 10-for-10 against Buffalo (Cody Hodgson, Johan Larsson, Matt D’Agostini, Zemgus Girgensons, Tyler Ennis). Helm won his first draw against Pittsburgh’s Jussi Jokinen before finishing the game at 6-for-9.
