Wings sign Quincey to two-year deal

DETROIT – The Red Wings today signed defenseman Kyle Quincey to a two-year contract. In accordance with club policy, additional details will not be disclosed.

Quincey, 28, has played in a total of 375 NHL games between the Red Wings, Colorado Avalanche and Los Angeles Kings, recording 23 goals and 88 assists. The veteran defenseman has also skated in 43 NHL playoff games and tallied four assists. Quincey spent the last three seasons in Detroit (2011-14) and recorded 19 points (7-12-19) in 136 games for Detroit. Last season, the blueliner was one of two Red Wings to suit up in all 82 games, tallying four goals and nine assists along the way.

Prior to joining Detroit, Quincey played three seasons in Colorado (2009-12) and one season in Los Angeles (2008-09). Originally drafted by the Red Wings in the fourth round (132rd overall) of the 2003 Entry Draft, Quincey turned pro during 2005-06 and made his NHL debut on Nov. 25, 2005. The 6-foot-2, 206-lb. defenseman went on to play three seasons with the Red Wings and Grand Rapids Griffins (2005-08), skating in 13 games with the big club in that span.

The Kitchener, Ontario, native played three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (2002-05) split between the London Knights and the Mississauga IceDogs. Quincey was named to the OHL All-Star game in both 2004 and 2005 and was named the Eastern Conference’s Best Defensive Defenseman in 2005 after recording 46 points (15-31-46) in 61 games with Mississauga.
