Merkosky, 52, begins his 14th season as a member of Detroit’s scouting staff and 21st season overall with the organization. His primary responsibilities include, scouting the American Hockey League and National Hockey League, identifying talent and evaluating players for the organization. He consults with Detroit’s front office personnel throughout the season regarding players to target via trades or free agency.
During his time with the organization, Merkosky has served as both a head coach (1996-99) and an assistant coach (1991-92) for the team’s former minor league affiliate, the Adirondack Red Wings. The Edmonton, Alberta, native is also Adirondack’s all-time franchise leader in games played (430), goals (204), assists (212) and points (416). Merkosky played in 66 career games for the Hartford Whalers (7), New Jersey Devils (39) and Red Wings (20).
Glenn resides in Glens Falls, New York, with his wife, Jennifer. They have four children.
