Each year, the Detroit Red Wings donate thousands of autographed items to local non-profit organizations to assist with their fundraising efforts. Since the fall of 2005, the Wings have helped charities raise over $1.35 million for their respective causes with donated autographed memorabilia.
Due to the large number of requests the Community Relations department receives each week, we ask that organizations meet the requirements below and follow the correct procedures to maximize the support that the Red Wings can provide to our community.
We try to fulfill as many requests as possible in a timely fashion, but please be aware that we cannot guarantee that every donation request will be met even if your organization meets our requirements.
• Non-profit organization that has 501(c)(3) IRS designation unless the fundraiser is a benefit for an individual
• Organization located in the state of Michigan, Windsor, or Toledo
• Item must be used to raise money in an auction or raffle
• Request must be received at least 4 weeks prior to event
• Organizations located outside the state of Michigan, Windsor, or Toledo
• Political organizations, campaigns or candidates seeking public office
• Requests for items to be used as a giveaway item, prize, or volunteer recognition gift
• Organizations that have already received a donated item within the current calendar year
• For-profit organizations, employee outings, all-night post-graduation or post-prom parties, or family reunions
How to Request an In-Kind Donation
If your organization meets the requirements listed above, please click the following link to complete our Charitable Donation Request Form. Please do not send duplicate requests or multiple copies of your requests to various departments.
In order to submit a valid request, you will be required to attach the following paperwork:
- Request letter on organizational letterhead and/or an event flier
- Copy of your organization’s 501(c)(3) form and tax-exempt identification number (if applicable)
The Red Wings Community Relations department will make every effort to process your request within 3-4 weeks prior to your event. We will respond to every request we receive whether or not a donation is approved. All decisions made by the department are final.
If you receive an in-kind donation, we ask that you fill out the enclosed donation response form and send it back to us by fax or mail. If you have misplaced your copy, you can download the Charitable Donation Response Form here.
Donation Requests FAQs
Can the Red Wings donate a pair of tickets for our fundraiser?
Due to the high volume of requests we receive and the popularity of our team, we are unable to provide tickets or suites as donation items.
My organization is not located in Michigan, Windsor, or Toledo. Can I still apply?
Due to the overwhelming amount of requests received each month and a limited inventory, the Wings must limit requests to in-state organizations and those located in neighboring Windsor, ON, and Toledo, OH.
We are looking for a sponsor for our upcoming fundraiser. Can the Red Wings sponsor a hole at our golf outing or a table at our auction dinner?
The Red Wings are unable to make monetary donations, purchase program ads, buy tables at banquets, sponsor a hole at a golf outing, etc. Each month the Community Relations department is besieged with requests for monetary donations and, unfortunately, must turn them down as our resources simply do not allow us to grant such requests. Although we cannot provide you with a monetary donation, please keep the Detroit Red Wings in mind should your organization ever need an auction or raffle item for a future fundraising event.
I submitted a request last week but haven’t heard anything from the Wings. What is the status of my request?
Since the Wings receive thousands of requests each year, it is impossible for the Community Relations department to respond individually to confirm receipt of each request. The Wings will send something in the mail at least one week prior to your event with either an autographed item or a letter explaining why your request was denied. Please be patient!
We would like to auction off a signed jersey at our fundraiser. Can we drop off a jersey at the arena for it to be signed?
The Detroit Red Wings do not accept outside items to be autographed. Any unsolicited items will be returned to the sender unsigned. We do not accept responsibility for any items mailed to us.
My company is holding an employee appreciation event. Can you donate an item?
The Wings are unable to donate autographed memorabilia to for-profit company programs and initiatives, including employee appreciation events, employee incentives, holiday parties, etc.
My organization decided at the last minute to hold an auction in two weeks. Can you make an exception?
Unfortunately, due to the number of requests we receive, we require and need a four-week time frame to fulfill all donation requests. Any requests submitted without the necessary four weeks notice will be denied. We appreciate your understanding and hope you will consider involving the Red Wings in your future fundraising activities.
My organization hosts several fundraisers annually. Can we request a donation for each event?
In order to fulfill as many requests as possible, the Community Relations department must limit one item donation per organization per calendar year. You are welcome to submit a donation request for an event at the start of the next calendar year. Due to this policy, we suggest that you determine which event you would prefer an autographed item from the Wings before submitting your request.
