MI Wings Community Tour

Each year, two groups of players make stops at various cities throughout the state en route to training camp in Traverse City as part of the MI Wings Community Tour. Tour stops typically include elementary schools, children’s hospitals, military bases or units, as well as military veteran medical facilities.

Past Years
2011
The Detroit Red Wings made four stops on the 2011 MI Wings Community Tour presented by ITC. On the West Tour, the Wings (Justin Abdelkader, Ty Conklin, Jimmy Howard, and Drew Miller) visited the Battle Creek Air National Guard Base and the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids, while the East Tour (Pavel Datsyuk, Darren Helm, Jakub Kindl, and Brad Stuart) made stops at the Hurley Medical Center's Pediatric Unit in Flint and the Kolb Elementary School in Bay City. 2010
The Red Wings made three stops on the West Tour and two stops on the East Tour with the 2010 Community Relations Tour. The West Tour stopped at the Sparrow Hospital Regional Children’s Center in East Lansing, the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, and Churchill Elementary School in Muskegon, while the East Tour visited at Potter Elementary School in Flint and the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw. Five players (Justin Abdelkader, Patrick Eaves, Tomas Holmstrom, Nick Lidstrom and Drew Miller) made stops on the West Tour, while four players (Todd Bertuzzi, Darren Helm, Jimmy Howard and Mike Modano) visited locations on the East Tour.



2009
In its second year, one group (Johan Franzen, Jimmy Howard, Brett Lebda and Henrik Zetterberg) visited the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit and Central Middle School in Midland. The other group of players (Jonathan Ericsson, Valtteri Filppula, Niklas Kronwall and Ville Leino) visited the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System and Northern Trails 5/6 School in Grand Rapids.

2008
In the caravan’s inaugural year, the East Tour (Dan Cleary, Kris Draper, Brett Lebda and Chris Osgood) stopped with the Stanley Cup at the Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Mt. Clemens and the White Pine Middle School in Saginaw, while the West Tour (Valtteri Filppula, Niklas Kronwall, Mikael Samuelsson and Henrik Zetterberg) made stops at the State National Guard HQ in Lansing and the DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.
