Red Wings for Reading

The Detroit Red Wings and forward Justin Abdelkader are excited to announce the third year of Red Wings for Reading presented by Michigan Education Savings Program (MESP) for the 2014-15 season to encourage Michigan elementary students to read outside of the classroom.

All kindergarten through fifth grade students attending a Michigan elementary school are encouraged to enter this fun contest by reading three popular children's books for their age group listed below, as selected by Justin Abdelkader, or by having someone read those three books to them:

Kindergarten - 2nd Grade Books:
The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf
Clifford the Big Red Dog by Norman Bridwell
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein

3rd - 5th Grade Books:
Stuart Little by E.B. White
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling
Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin

Fun Prizes!
Every qualified student whose guardian submits an entry form will receive an exclusive Red Wings' reading fan pack and be entered to win a pair of Red Wings tickets to a home game during the 2014-15 regular season courtesy of forward Justin Abdelkader! Students who win the chance to attend a Red Wings game as Abby's All Stars will also receive a goody bag and two meal vouchers good for a small pop and a slice of pizza or hot dog.

The school with the most entries between September 2, 2014, and February 1, 2015, will get the unique opportunity for Justin Abdelkader to read to a class! If the winning school is within 30 minutes of Joe Louis Arena, Justin Abdelkader will read a book to a classroom at the school. If the winning school is more than 30 minutes away from the arena, the Red Wings will invite the class to take a field trip to the arena where Justin Abdelkader will read to them.

Discounted Ticket Offer
Every student who participates in the Red Wings for Reading program and has an entry submitted on their behalf will receive a ticket offer included in their reading fan pack offering students one complimentary ticket to select Red Wings games with the purchase of at least one additional ticket.
