Grand Rapids Griffins vs. Toronto Marlies

The Grand Rapids Griffins captured their first victory of the 2012-13 AHL season this past Sunday, besting the Toronto Marlies by a score of 4-3 in a shootout at Ricoh Coliseum. Gutav Nyquist (2) and Tomas Tatar provided the Griffins’ offense during regulation play while Nyquist, Tomas Jurco and Brendan Smith all converted in the post-OT breakaway contest to give Grand Rapids the extra point. Meanwhile, between the pipes, veteran netminder Tom McCollum stopped 20 shots in regulation/overtime prior to going 3-for-3 in the deciding shootout. Grand Rapids Griffins vs. Toronto Marlies

Nyquist and Landon Ferraro are currently tied for the team scoring lead with 4GP-2G-1A-3P apiece while McCollum’s 2.77 GAA and .898 SV% both lead the club. The Griffins will  next face the Charlotte Checkers (Friday) and Rockford IceHogs (Saturday) this weekend at Van Andel Arena. Tickets to both of these contests can be obtained by clicking HERE.
Friday’s game will also be broadcast live by FOX Sports Detroit.

In ECHL action, the Toledo Walleye suffered their first defeat of the year on Sunday after opening their campaign with three straight wins. With four points (2G-2A) in three games played, former WMU Bronco Max Campbell currently leads the Walleye in scoring while Czech-born goaltender Petr Mrazek has gotten off to a solid start to his professional career, having posted a 2.53 GAA and .932 SV% thus far in his rookie season with Toledo.

The Walleye will visit the Trenton Titans for back-to-back road games this coming Friday/Saturday prior to battling the Royals in Reading on Sunday.
