Thanks to his strong performance in Pittsburgh, Bessone was offered a contract by Detroit the following year and he suited up for six games with the NHL's Red Wings and also 15 games with the Detroit Pontiacs. Midway through the year he was sent back to Pittsburgh, this time to the Hornets of the IAHL.

After nearly five years in Pittsburgh, Bessone was traded to the Cleveland Barons of the AHL late in 1942-43 and he remained with the club through the 1945-46 season, never relinquishing the toughness aspect of his game and was part of the Barons' Calder Cup winning team in 1945.

In 1947 he returned to France for two years where he took over the coaching duties for the Paris Racing Club and retired in 1949-50 as a member of the AHL's Springfield Indians. Bessone was inducted to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 1978. His brother Amo Bessone, who coached Michigan State University for 28 years, is also in the U.S. Hall of Fame.
