The Canadiens loaned Check to the Detroit Red Wings as an emergency injury replacement on March 11, 1944. Check played a single game for the Wings without getting on the scoresheet.
The following October, the Canadiens sold Lude Check to the Chicago Black Hawks and he was given a chance to show his skills. Check played 26 games in the Windy City scoring six goals and eight points.
After his time with the Hawks, Check never played in the NHL again. The Canadiens, who retained the right to repurchase Check's contract re-acquired him and loaned him to the Ottawa Senators of the Quebec Senior League. Check spent next six seasons with the Senators, retiring following the 1950-51 campaign.
Left winger Lude Check was born in Brandon, Manitoba on May 22, 1919 and signed with the Montreal Canadiens as a free agent on October 24th, 1943. Before that, Check had spent time with five different clubs before getting his NHL chance.
