After playing three years of junior hockey in his hometown of Regina, Saskatchewan, Don Deacon went on to play three more years of senior hockey before taking his skills to Detroit to continue his career. Deacon, who was born on June 2nd 1913, was signed by the Detroit Red Wings in 1934 but didn't join them until the 1935-37 season.

Deacon, a left-winger, played four games for the Red Wings but was unable to score a point. He spent the rest of that season and all of the next one in the American Hockey League with the Pittsburgh Hornets. He returned in 1938 and played eight more games with the Red Wings and this time enjoyed more success. Deacon scored his first NHL goal and assisted on three other goals during his brief stay with the Wings.

The rest of that season Deacon was back with the Hornets and he led the league in assists and points with 65 in 46 games. Deacon's longest run with the Wings came the next year, his last in the NHL.

Deacon played 18 games and scored five goals and six points, his most productive stint as an NHL player. Despite his offensive improvement, Deacon spent most of that season in the minors.

He played the next two years in the AHL then retired as a professional and played his last season of hockey as an amateur in Calgary playing senior hockey. Don Deacon retired from hockey following the 1942-43 campaign.
