Stettler, Alberta native Bob Falkenberg, was born on January 1, 1946. Nicknamed "Steady" for his poise on the blue line, Falkenberg spent three years with the Edmonton Oil Kings before making the leap to the National Hockey League.

In 1966-67, Falkenberg joined the Detroit Red Wings, playing 16 games and scoring a goal and an assist. The next season, with expansion thinning out the rosters of the former Original Six club, Falkenberg upped his games played to 20. However, by 1968-69, he was played just five games for the Wings and the next year he didn't play in the NHL at all.

Falkenberg spent the 1969-70 season with the Cleveland Barons of the American Hockey League. He was back with Detroit the next year, but just for nine games. When he played just four more games in Detroit in 1971-72, it was clear Falkenberg was not part of the Red Wings plans and he welcomed a new opportunity.

That opportunity came with the formation of the World Hockey Association in 1972. Falkenberg was drafted by his home province's Alberta Oilers. He spent the next two seasons with the Oilers and was traded to the San Diego Mariners in May of 1974.

Falkenberg spent three years on the Mariners blue line, but the team folded following the 1976-77 season. Now a free agent, he signed with his old club and spent his final season of pro hockey with the Edmonton Oilers of the WHA.
