Acquired: Claimed by Detroit from Toronto in intra-league draft on June 4, 1962.
Alex Faulkner, born in Bishop Falls, Newfoundland on May 21, 1936, spent two highly-productive seasons of senior hockey, where he led the league both years in goals and points before joining the Conception Bay Cee Bees for parts of three years. Faulkner jumped to the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League during the 1960-61 season.

Halfway through that year, the Toronto Maple Leafs signed Faulkner as a free agent and by the next season he was wearing the blue and white, though for just one game. On June 4, 1962, the Detroit Red Wings claimed Faulkner from the Leafs in the intra-league draft and he became an NHL regular.

Faulkner played 70 games with the Red Wings, scoring ten goals and 20 points in 1962-63. The following year, he played 30 games and scored 12 points, but he also spent time in the minors that season with Cincinnati and Pittsburgh.

Faulkner would not return to the NHL after his second year with the Red Wings, but his career carried on for eight more years. He returned to the Cee Bees for two seasons, followed by a year with the Memphis Wings, then a three year run with the San Diego Gulls. Four games into his fourth season with the Gulls, Faulkner returned to Newfoundland to finish his career with the St. John's Capitals.

Alex Faulkner retired after the 1971-72.
