Drafted: WIN / 1980 NHL Entry Draft
Round: 3rd (44th overall)
The Winnipeg Jets in the 1980 NHL draft chose Murray Eaves in the third-round, 44th overall. Although he played 57 games in the NHL, the majority of his professional hockey career was spent in the minor leagues, notably the CHL and the AHL.

After playing one year of major junior hockey with the Windsor Spitfires, Eaves elected to follow the college route while playing hockey. At the University of Michigan he had a big year in 1979-80, scoring 36 goals and 49 assists for 85 points in just 33 games. This production caught the attention of the scouts and gave Eaves the opportunity to pursue an NHL career.

Eaves dressed for 12 games with the Jets in 1980-81, scoring a goal and two assists. The following year was spent with the Tulsa Oilers of the CHL, where he scored 79 points in 68 games.

It was the 1982-83 season Eaves got the chance to play in 26 games for the Jets due to injuries to other players. However, his playing time decreased the next year and he was relegated once again to riding the buses in the minors.

Eaves also had a brief stopover with the Detroit Red Wings and was a member of Canada's national team in 1992 and 1994, playing for his country in the Olympics at Albertville and Lillehammer.
