Born in Beirut, Lebanon, Hatoum was the first individual from that country to make to the NHL. He played junior with the Hamilton Red Wings and made his pro debut for the Fort Worth Wings during the 1968 CHL playoffs. During the next two seasons he was a CHL regular but was recalled twice by the Detroit Red Wings.
Prior to the 1970-71 season, the Vancouver Canucks in the NHL expansion draft claimed Hatoum. He split the year between the NHL and the Seattle Totems of the Western League. During his last three pro season, the veteran forward spent time in the WHA with the Chicago Cougars and Vancouver Blazers while continuing to see plenty of action in the WHL. Hatoum retired in 1976 after playing two years of senior hockey in the WIHL with the Nelson Maple Leafs.
