The Vancouver native played junior with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WCJHL in 1955-56 then joined the senior Red Deer Rustlers for three years. This was followed by four years in the minors including his one game recall to Motown. The majority of his playing time took place in the EPHL with the Sudbury Wolves and Soo Thunderbirds.

In 1963-64, the veteran rearguard returned to senior hockey with the Lacombe Rockets of the ASHL. He spent three years anchoring their blueline before joining the Edmonton Nuggets in 1966-67. Healey later played in Vermillion then returned to Edmonton before retiring in 1969.
