Weight: 190
Shoots: Right
Born: May 12, 1906

Defenseman James "Rusty" Hughes played the 1929-30 season with the Detroit Cougars. Most of his career was spent in the minors where defensive zone coverage was his forte.

Born in Webbwood, Ontario, Hughes spent nearly two years with the Winnipeg Maroons of the old Central League before playing for three different clubs in the Can-Pro loop. After a solid year with the Buffalo Bisons in 1928-29, the Cougars in the inter-league draft claimed Hughes.

Following his only NHL season, the steady backliner spent most of the next six years in the IAHL before retiring in 1936. Hughes also spent a season in the AHA with the St. Louis Flyers in his well-traveled career.
