Drafted: BUF / 1974 NHL Amateur Draft
Round: 2nd (29th overall)
At age 11, growing up in Nelson, B.C., young Danny Gare would have never believed that a 13-year NHL career awaited him. It wasn't until he scored 127 points in 65 games with the Calgary Centennials of the WCJHL and was selected as a First-Team All Star in 1974 that he, and the Buffalo Sabres, became real believers.

Gare was selected 29th overall in the 1974 amateur draft and reported straightway to the Sabres camp. He made an immediate impact, scoring 31 goals during the regular season and adding 13 points during a 1975 playoff run that saw the team fall short in the finals to Bernie Parent and the Flyers.

In his second year, Gare joined Don Luce and Craig Ramsey on the club's checking line. They played a great two-way game as Gare tallied his first 50-goal season.

By 1979-80, Gare, as the team's captain, buried 56 goals and 33 assists to lead the league in scoring along with fellow snipers Charlie Simmer and Blaine Stoughton.

Shortly after representing Canada in the 1981 Canada Cup Tournament, Gare was traded to the Detroit Red Wings where he performed until 1986. He then put in one final season with the Edmonton Oilers in the company of Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier and Paul Coffey. After leaving the NHL, Gare played briefly in Germany.
