Francis Kane
Number: 17
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 186
Shoots: Left
Born: Jan 19, 1923
Birthplace: Stratford, ON, Canada
Acquired: Traded to Tulsa (USHL) by Detroit for cash, in November 1945.
Francis "Red" Kane played a pair of games on the Detroit Red Wings' defense in 1943-44. He was a competent amateur and minor pro defender who looked after matters in his own end and moved the puck ahead to the forwards consistently well.

The native of Stratford, Ontario played a year with the Falconbridge Falcons before joining the OHA's Brantford Lions in 1942-43. Outside of the two-game recall with Detroit, Kane played almost his whole first year as a pro with AHL's Indianapolis Capitols. After anchoring the Caps' blueline in 1944-45 he moved on to the St. Louis Flyers before switching leagues early in 1945-46 to play for the Tulsa Oilers of the USHL.

Kane excelled for three years on the defence of the Fort Worth Rangers of the USHL from 1946 to 1949. He spent his last two years in the PCHL and AHL until he retired in 1951.
