He suited up for 20 games for the Kings that season, spending the balance of his time with the AHL New Haven Nighthawks. During the 1990-91 season, Halkidis again made his mark in the pim column, totalling 133 minutes in only 34 games. Toronto signed him as a free agent in July 1991. He made 46 appearances for the Leafs before heading back to the minors, where he stayed until signed as a free agent by Detroit in September 1993.

After Halkidis played 32 games in a Detroit sweater, Tampa Bay claimed him off waivers. During the 1995-1996 season he was again placed on waivers, picked up by Chicago, and traded to the Islanders for Danton Cole in February of 1996. He played five games for the Islanders, and although he was signed as a free agent by Florida in July of that year, he did not play again in the NHL. He split his time between the minors and Europe before retiring in 1999.
