Jerome "Jud" McAtee spent parts of three seasons with the Detroit Red Wings in the 40s. He was better known as a fine scorer and checker in junior and the minor leagues.

Born in Stratford, Ontario, he played with the hometown Miners and Midgets before joining the OHA's Oshawa Generals. In 1939-40 he led the league with 25 goals and 44 points before signing as a free agent with the Red Wings. He was regular on the AHL's Indianapolis Capitals for three years and was recalled to Detroit twice.

After playing most of the 1943-44 season with the senior St. Catharines Saints, McAtee was given an opportunity to play full time in Detroit when they were short of players during the latter stages of World War II. In 1944-45 he scored 15 goals and worked well on a line with Syd Howe and Mud Bruneteau. Following his memorable year, McAtee spent two years as a checking centre with the St. Louis Flyers of the AHL. He later competed for the Tulsa Oilers of the USHL before retiring in 1950.
