A six-time winner of the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s most outstanding goaltender, ‘The Dominator’ was acquired by the Red Wings from the Buffalo Sabres in a blockbuster trade on July 1, 2001. Hasek made an immediate impact in Detroit, backstopping the Red Wings to the 10th Stanley Cup in franchise history (and the first of his career) in 2001-02, leading the NHL in wins during the regular season (41) prior to setting a league record by recording six playoff shutouts (record since surpassed by Martin Brodeur). The only netminder in NHL history to win two Hart Trophies as league MVP, Hasek captured the second Cup of his career in 2008 as a member of the Red Wings, retiring from the NHL at the end of the post-season that year. Internationally, Hasek has represented the Czech Republic on numerous occasions, winning a Gold Medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics as well as bronze at the 2006 games. At the IIHF World Championships, Hasek won one Silver Medal (1983) and three Bronze Medals (1987, 1989 and 1990) for Czechoslovakia.
