Edward Nicholson was a stocky defenceman who could play the body and pass the puck effectively. He played one game with the Detroit Red Wings in 1947-48 and six seasons in the AHL.

The native of Portsmouth, Ontario played senior with the Kingston Athletic Club in 1945-46. Nicholson turned pro with the Indianapolis Capitals in 1945-46 and became a regular on their blueline. He signed as a free agent with the Detroit Red Wings in March, 1948 and played one NHL game.

Prior to the 1949-50 season, Nicholson was traded to the St. Louis Flyers. He spent three years in the AHL with them and scored 22 goals over that span before retiring in 1952.
