Defenceman John Salovaara played parts of two seasons with the Detroit Red Wings in the mid 70s. He was an offensive minded player who spent the bulk of his pro career in the minors.
Born in Cooksville, Ontario, Salovaara played junior with the St. Catharines Black Hawks of the OHA. He then spent several years in the EHL, CHL and AHL before playing 27 NHL games for Detroit in 1974-75. He was eventually returned to Virginia of the AHL but made the team and played 63 games the next years before injuries forced him to retire.
